On Monday, Rep. Doug Hawkins announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for the 37th Senate District.

Hawkins, a Republican, said the 37th District needs better representation. He said Clark doesn't show up for events in the district, including meetings of the Southwest Jefferson County Bridge Commission that was created by the Metro Council.

Hawkins will be available for interviews starting Monday, January 14, 2008. Louisville Metro Councilman Doug Hawkins announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for the 37th Senate District located in Southwest Jefferson County.

If Louisville is the economic engine of the state, then the people of south Louisville are the heart of that engine. The working families of the 37th senate district deserve better health care, good jobs, and a quality education.

These are not just empty words. Together we fought to keep Southwest Hospital and emergency care in south Louisville.

We fought to facilitate and bring in the new Penske Automotive distribution center, creating over 100 new jobs for the community. In addition, we have helped to find countless jobs for the people within the district.

We have secured funding to improve the quality of health and education for several schools in the district by providing playground equipment and after school programs.
